Toggle it back on when you need to make adjustments to the pinned element. Simply toggle the “Select Pinned Element” button at the bottom right corner of your Revit model to disable, and your pinned element will no longer be selectable. Revit tries to visually highlight any elements that your cursor hovers over, and may take up some processing time when highlighting an extremely detailed element. This is helpful when an extremely large external Revit model is linked to the working Revit model. Pinned objects can also be set to not select or highlight when the cursor highlights over the pinned object. You can pin objects by selecting the pin object icon under the Modify Tab, or by typing PN while the object is selected. I feel that's micro-managing and should be completely avoided, but that's your call.If you are referencing or overlaying an external dwg, rvt, or other types of drawings files, make sure they are pinned down to ensure that these reference files do not shift and cause inaccuracies in modeling. I believe there's a paid plugin app on the Autodesk Exchange that will remove the ability to click "Edit Family" from within Revit, if you wanted to take it that far. Ultimately, this is an internal QC issue and should be handled by an enforceable company policy. If it's the Families housed within the Project that's being edited without permission, then you can always Load > Overwrite Parameter Values from the write protected vetted location, ensuring the correct Family is always in place. This way they can use the content all day long without saving/overwriting the vetted content. Maybe Ill just write a program to do that.All the vetted company Families (even the stock Autodesk content for that matter) should exist on a networked location, and Group Policies should be in place where only a few anointed Revit Managers have full access. I figured there prolly is not a way to not let a family overwrite the family that already exist but you never know until you ask.
